Changes to Shuttle-UM 110 Seven Springs Route

Dear Shuttle-UM passengers,

We are writing to inform you of Shuttle-UM service changes to the Seven Springs apartment complex on Cherry Hill Road.

For many years, Seven Springs has partnered with DOTS to provide shuttle service to their location. Unfortunately, the Seven Springs management recently informed us that, after an internal review, they will no longer be continuing with this mutual funding agreement for the 110 Seven Springs route.

We know that many students, faculty and staff rely on the 110 for their commute to and from campus. We explored an alternative plan with Seven Springs as an attempt to keep the route in place, however, we were unable to find a solution that worked for both parties. Consequently, the 110 Seven Springs will be discontinued. August 16, 2019 will be the last day of service to Seven Springs apartments on the 134 Mazza GrandMarc/Seven Springs route.

Shuttle-UM ridership data shows that the majority of 110 passengers live in the neighborhoods along the Rhode Island Avenue corridor. To continue serving this community, we will increase service on the Shuttle-UM 127 Mazza GrandMarc route, which serves the same locations as the 110 route on Rhode Island Avenue and Edgewood Road.

Beginning on Monday, August 26, the 127 Mazza GrandMarc route will have additional buses in service between 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m, and 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. This new schedule will allow us to continue to serve 110 passengers from College Park neighborhoods.

Seven Springs has invited residents to visit their management office to discuss transportation alternatives. One option is the WMATA 83 route. This route services the same off-campus bus stops as the 110, as well as the College Park Metro station and stops along Baltimore Avenue adjacent to campus. The fare to ride the WMATA 83 is $2.00 using a SmarTrip® card or cash.

We apologize for the complications that these shuttle route changes may cause, and we invite you to review more information about this service transition in our 110 Seven Springs Shuttle-UM Service FAQ. If you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at transportation@umd.edu.

Sincerely,
