The Department of Transportation Services continues to be committed to the development of both the students and full-time employees that work for us. Many of our student employees go on to work full-time for us after graduation. This year alone we hired a student employee full-time into our IT department and our Shuttle Management department.
Student Drivers (continuously hiring)
DOTS Shuttle-UM drivers provide safe, dependable, on-time transportation to University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff. The position involves paid training, flexible hours, and advancement opportunities. Drivers earn $9.25/hr during training, which increases to $12.50/hr after completion of training and CDL licensing.

Sustainable Transportation/TDM Student Assistant
Job Type/Requirements: $9.75/hr; Part Time: 15-20 hrs/week; Undergraduate/Graduate.
The Sustainable Transportation Team at DOTS works to provide alternative commute, aka ‘Smart Commute’ options to the university community with the goal of influencing commute behaviors and reducing the number of vehicles that drive and park on campus. UMD Smart Commute programs include: vanpool, carpool, transit, bike, walk, telework, carshare and a variety of incentive programs.
Position: We are currently hiring a summer student assistant to support the team in implementing and managing various Smart Commute programs.
Position term: May-August with the possible opportunity for extension in the fall semester. Start and end dates are flexible.

Student Staff Human Resources Manager

Student Marketing Assistant
Job Type/Requirements: $9.75 per hour; Part time; Undergraduate Students only
The Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) has an opening in its Marketing and Design department for an experienced Student Marketing Assistant. This position plays an active role in engaging the campus community and promoting the UMD DOTS core messages and services. The target audience is primarily students, but also includes faculty, staff and campus visitors.
Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant assists in the implementation of strategy to effectively market and promote new and existing products and services. The Marketing Assistant will represent the department at University-sponsored events and assist with the Shuttle-UM advertising program. Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant will strive to broaden the reach of the DOTS community and encourage positive interaction between DOTS and the University of Maryland Community.
This position requires a weekly commitment of 10–15 hours to be worked during standard office hours (9:00 – 5:00). This position requires weekend work (Saturdays) twice a month, plus occasional events held on weekends or evenings. This position requires work during the summer.

Student Training Advisor
The Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) is looking for enthusiastic individuals with excellent public speaking, written communication, and presentation skills to fill the position of Training Advisor. The Training Advisor reports to the Training Coordinator in facilitating training programs for new employees and assisting in the coordination of learning experiences for students and full-time staff. In addition to these tasks, the candidate will also be responsible for assisting with internal programming for diversity events and professional development.
